Basically, the value of the coin is linked to an existing currency and whatever that currency is worth the coin is worth. They also dont put out more coins than the maker of said coins has currency to back up.
All well and good until you realise that, all they've done is reinvent the gold standard.
The supposed "future of currency" is literally a century in the past.
